News for Members of Eastern Star

(Sept,12,06) - During the first week of July the annual Grand Lodge sessions were held in Dartmouth. On Wednesday, July 12 Brother Eric Hann of Helping Hand Lodge #34 River John was installed as Grandmaster of the Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of OddFellows, Atlantic Provinces. Several brothers from our own District #17 were installed in Grand Lodge offices including Brother Jim Bailey, Helping Hand #34 as Grand Guardian, Brother Earl Johnson, Helping Hand #34 as Grand Herald, Brother David Murray, Liberty Lodge #120 Tatamagouche,Grand Conductor, and Brother Don MacKenzie as Grand Chaplain, Eastern Star Lodge #1 Pictou.

(Oct,14,06) - Thanks go out to all the brothers who participated in our fall lobster draw.  Because the original Draw date fell on the weekend that Brother Bill Roddick passed away, the draw was held over until Saturday, October 14.  Congratulations go to Susan Campbell from Caribou Island who was the winner of the dozen market lobsters.

(Oct,22,06) - It's now official, our roll call dinner will be held Thursday November the 9th.   Look for your yearly newsletter with your official roll call invite and the latest news from Eastern star in your mail. Princess Rebekha will serve a hot roast beef dinner at $10.00 a plate. Our new Noble Grand would like to invite all brothers to try and attend this special meeting of fellowship.

Thursday, October 6 was a very busy night at Eastern Star.  District Deputy Grandmaster Jacob Leggwater and his installing team from Helping Hand #34 River John installed the officers for the new term.  Deputy Grandmaster Winston Ellsworth of Exploits Lodge N1, Grand Falls – Windsor, Newfoundland, also made his official visit on the same evening.  The deputy grandmaster brought greetings to Eastern star and complemented us on our Lodge work.  He also had some sad news noting that Norton Lodge, New Glasgow was turning in their charter.  He said we must all work together to ensure the future of our order.

(Oct,22,06) - Eastern star has received a very generous bequeathment from the late brother Walter Cox's estate.  This money will be placed in the general account, and already some is being used to purchase a new sound system for the Lodge hall which hopefully will help those hard of hearing.
